چکیده

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the largest lake area in China, with a total area of existing lakes of 36,900 km2, accounting for 49.5% of the total lake area of China The expansion and shrinkage of lakes in the Tibetan Plateau play critical roles in the water cycle and ecological and environment systems of the Plateau. In this paper, bases on the topographic map in 1970s, and the MASS and TM/ETM satellite remote sensing images from 1970s to 2008, the areas of the lakes were extracted, and a multivariate statistical analysis method was used to analyze the relationship between the area of the lakes and the global climate change, including the change of the temperature, the precipitation, and other factors. The results suggest the variations of lakes in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are closely related to the warming and humidified climate change in the recent years such as rise of the air temperature, increase of the precipitation, etc.

Relationships between climate and growth of Gymnocypris selincuoensis in the Tibetan Plateau

The consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly evident in the Tibetan Plateau, represented by glaciers retreating and lakes expanding, but the biological response to climate change by plateau-lake ecosystems is poorly known. In this study, we applied dendrochronology methods to develop a growth index chronology with otolith increment widths of Selincuo naked carp (Gymnocypris seli...

Delayed Response of Lake Area Change to Climate Change in Siling Co Lake, Tibetan Plateau, from 2003 to 2013

The Tibetan Plateau is a key area for research on global environmental changes. During the past 50 years, the climate in the Siling Co lake area has become continuously warmer and wetter, which may have further caused the increase in Siling Co lake area. Based on the Siling Co lake area (2003 to 2013) and climate data acquired from the Xainza and Baingoin meteorological stations (covering 1966 ...

Identification of Photosynthetic Plankton Communities Using Sedimentary Ancient DNA and Their Response to late-Holocene Climate Change on the Tibetan Plateau

Sediments from Tibetan lakes in NW China are potentially sensitive recorders of climate change and its impact on ecosystem function. However, the important plankton members in many Tibetan Lakes do not make and leave microscopically diagnostic features in the sedimentary record. Here we established a taxon-specific molecular approach to specifically identify and quantify sedimentary ancient DNA...

International Workshop on Terrestrial Water Cycle Observation and Modeling from Space: Innovation and Reliability of Data Products Determining geometric links between glaciers and lakes on the Tibetan plateau

The Tibetan plateau and surrounding mountain ranges contain the largest amount of ice outside the polar region. The Tibetan plateau also contains more than one thousand lakes and is the origin of a large part of the water resources of South and East Asia, the most densely populated regions on earth. Recent studies concluded that the glacial area on the Tibetan plateau and surroundings has decre...

Perspectives on Environmental Study of Response to Climatic and Land Cover/Land Use Change over the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau: an Introduction

Mountain areas seem to be especially susceptible to global climate change and are reported to have warmed more, and perhaps sooner, than the rest of the globe (e.g., Beniston and Rebetez, 1996). Liu and Chen (2000) have argued that the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is a harbinger of climate change due to its early and accelerated warming. It represents the largest high-elevation region on the globe, ...
